A large industrial operator in South Africa required a dependable power system for production equipment, electrical infrastructure, ventilation, control systems, site lighting and other critical loads. Grid interruptions and rising diesel generation costs created a clear need for stronger on-site energy resilience.
The project integrates a ground-mounted solar PV array with multiple containerized battery units in a dedicated outdoor energy area. Protective canopies, raised platforms and organized cable routing support practical operation and maintenance in demanding industrial conditions.
Project Challenges
Industrial facilities operate with high and variable power demand. Unexpected outages can interrupt production, affect sensitive equipment and increase generator operating hours. The customer needed a scalable solar power system capable of coordinating daytime generation, battery charging, peak-load support and backup power.
WHC Power Solar Solution
WHC Power delivered a complete 1MW commercial and industrial solar power solution with approximately 2MWh of battery backup. A 1MW hybrid PCS coordinates energy flow between the solar array, battery system, facility loads and utility connection.
The integrated design combines solar generation, modular battery storage, EMS control, switchgear and electrical protection. It enables the facility to use more solar energy during operating hours while maintaining stored power for critical loads when grid supply becomes unstable.
