Portfolio
A copper processing plant in Zambia required a dependable power system for crushers, pumps, ventilation equipment, material handling systems, control rooms and other essential production loads. Grid instability and extensive generator use created operating cost pressure and increased the risk of production interruptions.
The facility selected a modular commercial and industrial solar power solution that could be integrated with the site’s electrical infrastructure while supporting daily production and critical-load continuity.

Project Challenges
Mineral processing facilities operate heavy electrical loads over long production cycles. Voltage fluctuations and unexpected outages can interrupt critical processes, while frequent diesel generator operation increases fuel consumption and maintenance requirements.
The customer needed an integrated system capable of supplying daytime production loads, storing solar energy, supporting peak demand and providing battery backup for selected production and safety equipment.

WHC Power Solar Solution
WHC Power configured a complete 500kW commercial and industrial solar power system with approximately 1MWh of battery backup. A 500kW hybrid inverter / PCS coordinates energy flow between the solar PV array, battery system, plant loads, utility supply and existing backup generation.
The containerized equipment integrates battery modules, power conversion, energy management, thermal management and electrical protection in a modular format. This design supports efficient transport, on-site installation, commissioning and future system expansion.
The EMS prioritizes daytime solar generation, manages battery charging and discharging, and provides peak-load and backup support according to the plant’s operating schedule.
System Configuration
Solar Capacity: 500kW solar PV
Battery Backup: approximately 1MWh
Inverter / PCS: 500kW hybrid inverter / PCS
System Type: commercial and industrial solar power system with containerized battery support
Application: copper processing, production continuity, peak-load support and backup power
Project Benefits
The system increases the direct use of solar energy across daily plant operations and improves power reliability for critical processing equipment. Battery backup supports production during grid disturbances and high-load periods, helping reduce unnecessary diesel generator runtime.
The modular system architecture also gives the customer a practical path for future capacity expansion as production demand changes.
Why WHC Power
WHC Power supports EPC contractors and industrial customers with system design, equipment integration, technical coordination and project delivery assistance. The complete solution combines solar generation, hybrid power conversion, battery backup and energy management around the customer’s load profile and site conditions.
