A remote community service site in Sierra Leone needed a practical solar power system to support lighting, communications, water pumping, security systems, small public facilities and selected critical loads.
The project uses a ground-mounted solar PV array with outdoor power equipment to support daily electricity use. WHC Power configured the site as an 80kW remote community solar power system with approximately 160kWh battery storage support, helping improve power reliability where grid access can be limited or unstable.
The solution focuses on solar generation, system integration, backup power support and better continuity for essential community services.
Project Background
Remote community facilities often need electricity for public lighting, communications, water supply equipment, small commercial loads and basic administrative services. When grid power is weak, diesel generators can increase operating cost and maintenance pressure.
A solar power system with battery storage support gives the site a practical way to use available land for clean energy generation while keeping backup power available for selected loads during unstable power periods.
Power Supply Challenges
The community service site required a power solution that could support daytime electricity use and provide backup power for essential loads after sunset or during grid interruption.
The installation also needed to be simple to inspect and maintain. A ground-mounted PV layout allows the solar array to be arranged in open land, with outdoor power equipment positioned nearby for easier operation.
For remote public service applications, the system must balance solar generation capacity, battery storage support, electrical protection and practical maintenance needs.
WHC Power Solution
WHC Power provided an 80kW ground-mounted solar power system with approximately 160kWh battery storage support for the remote community project.
During the day, the PV array helps supply local loads and charge the battery system. When solar output drops or grid power is unstable, the hybrid inverter and battery storage configuration support selected critical loads.
The complete solution combines solar PV generation, inverter matching, battery storage integration, electrical protection and project-level configuration support for a dependable community energy structure.
System Configuration
Solar Capacity: 80kW ground-mounted solar PV system
Battery Storage Support: approximately 160kWh lithium battery system
Inverter: 80kW hybrid inverter solution
System Type: Solar PV + battery storage support
Application: Remote community power supply and public service load backup
Customer Type: Community service operator / public facility project
Project Location: Sierra Leone
Project Benefits
The solar power system helps improve electricity reliability for lighting, communications, water pumping, security systems and selected community service loads.
Solar generation reduces diesel generator dependence during daytime operation, while battery storage support improves backup capability after sunset and during unstable grid periods.
The ground-mounted structure and outdoor equipment layout also support easier inspection, maintenance and future system expansion for remote public service applications.
