Portfolio
A municipal water treatment plant in Malawi required a dependable power system for raw-water pumps, filtration equipment, aeration systems, process controls, site lighting and other essential utility loads. Grid interruptions and generator dependence created operating challenges for a facility expected to support continuous public water service.
The project integrates a ground-mounted solar array with battery backup to increase daytime solar use and support selected critical equipment when utility power becomes unstable.
Project Background
The solar array was installed on available open land beside the treatment facility. Concrete foundations and galvanized steel structures provide a durable base for the PV modules and support organized installation, inspection and long-term maintenance.
Project Challenges
Water treatment processes rely on pumps, motors and control equipment that must operate according to changing treatment and distribution demand. Power interruptions can affect water intake, treatment cycles and delivery schedules, while frequent diesel generator use increases fuel and maintenance exposure.
The customer needed an integrated system capable of supplying daytime loads, storing solar energy and supporting critical operations during periods of weak or unavailable grid power.
WHC Power Solar Solution
WHC Power configured a complete 200kW commercial and industrial solar power system with approximately 430kWh of battery backup. A 200kW hybrid inverter / PCS coordinates energy flow between the ground-mounted solar array, battery system, utility connection and selected facility loads.
The integrated solution combines solar generation, battery management, energy control and electrical protection. The EMS manages solar consumption, battery charging and discharging, peak-load support and backup operation according to the facility’s operating requirements.
System Configuration
Solar Capacity: 200kW ground-mounted solar PV
Battery Backup: approximately 430kWh
Inverter / PCS: 200kW hybrid inverter / PCS
System Type: commercial and industrial solar power system with battery backup
Application: water treatment pumps, process equipment, control systems and critical-load backup
Project Benefits
The system increases the direct use of solar energy across daily water treatment operations and improves power reliability for essential equipment. Battery backup provides support during grid disturbances and high-load periods, helping reduce unnecessary generator runtime and maintain operational continuity.
The modular system architecture also allows the public utility to adapt capacity as treatment demand and infrastructure requirements develop.
Why WHC Power
WHC Power supports EPC contractors and public infrastructure operators with system design, equipment integration, technical coordination and project delivery assistance. The complete solution combines solar generation, hybrid power conversion, battery backup and energy management around the customer’s load profile and site conditions.
